PE 2011: The outcome of the Presidential Election

The change I was hoping for did not happen. With TT as the 7th President, things in Singapore remains the same. I do not believe that TT will do a bad job. He could ultimately and possibly do another OTC on the PAP. That will be great. However, TT wins in this election demonstrated the men in white's political shrewdness, once again, in allowing 4 candidates for the contest. It is arguably true that the entrance of TCB and TKL prevented a win for TCB. Most of the time with the men in white, they do not gve us a choice at all. But, this time, when they do, it worked to their favour perfectly. What is the lesson here? There is a time for everything. There is a time to limit choices and there is a time to give many choices. Nevertheless, the outcome of thsi PE is a win win win for PAP, TJS and Singapore. PAP got the man they wanted. TJS got the publicity he wanted. Singapore got the political maturity she needed with the president being elected with only 35.2%. Whos says 50% is the passing mark?
